Freelance music journalist, editor, avid writer and music lover. Spent ten years in London where I got my start in the whole music thing. London got too expensive so I bounced to Tokyo for a year and a half, looking for a change and inspiration. Having found it I'm heading back to Europe to start building again.
Writing
I regularly write features, columns and reviews for Serie B magazine (Spain) and ATM (UK/AUS/NZ), and online at www.spannered.org.
In the past I've had work published in Scratch (US), One Week To Live (UK), Japanzine (JP), Undercover (UK) and Bangkok Metro (Thailand) and online at www.ukhh.com,www.hyperdub.net (RIP), and elsewhere.
I created and am the editor of Spin Science, www.spinscience.org.uk. The site currently hosts over 140 interviews, features and reviews centering around DJ culture, turntablism and production.
I've written biographies and press packs for various artists including DJ Supreme (from Hijack), 2tall, Goth-Trad and Baku.
Since 2005 I've also done PR and promotion campaigns (writing one sheets, press releases, mail shots, online promotion, etc...) for various independent artists, labels and companies including Resonance FM, Needlework Records, POP GROUP and Eclectic Breaks.
Podcasting / Music
Since 2004 I've been the presenter of the Turntable Radio shows. The show was originally presented by Mr Trick and aired on London's Resonance FM and archived online.
A year after I took over, in 2005, the show was moved to podcast only, with its home at www.turntableradio.com and the feed co-hosted on Resonance FM's roster of podcasts. With over 23,000 downloads a week, Turntable Radio is Resonance's second most popular podcast, no mean feat for a show that focuses on what is a fairly underground and niche scene.
As of 2008 I am now also involved with Turntable Radio's sister show, Rhythm-Incursions, www.rhythm-incursions.com. Simply put R-I picks up where hip hop stops, showcasing music that takes hip hop as a starting cue or influence, from Wordsound to Hyperdub, Dilla to Prefuse 73, The Bug to Joey Beats. I'll be maintaining the site's content, commissioning guest shows and just generally keeping the show moving onwards as it changes from an FM slot to a full podcast version.
I also DJ. Held a residency in London, at the Dragon Bar where I co-ran the Sunday Cypher open mic night with my boy Chu-I for a few years. In Tokyo I was invited to play and became a resident at Back To Chill, the city's first and biggest dubstep party. I also like to tweak knobs and hit keys and pads to make music on a computer when I'm not doing something else.
